BOSTON: Venezuelan founder and director of RUMBARROCO Laury Gutiérrez has announced details of the group’s upcoming concert, called Latin-Baroque Fusion, to take place on Martha’s Vineyard. RUMBARROCO is an exciting new musical venture featuring expert musicians conversant in Renaissance, Baroque, and Afro-Latin music from both Spain and Latin America.
This is the group’s first visit to the Vineyard, and it promises to be a delightful afternoon. The concert will be preceded by drinks and appetizers in an informal and festive atmosphere in the garden of the 1720 House, weather permitting. (In case of rain, the program will be moved to a nearby church.) The program will highlight musical parallels between Spain and Latin America. The composers included are Ortiz, Murcia, Soler, Narváez, and Castellanos. The music will feature examples of Venezuelan joropo and Mexican huasteco and jarocho son styles, especially in the selections La Lloroncita, Fandanguito, and the best known, La Bamba. Also a Puerto Rican Plena will be added to the mix to spice things up even more.
